NYC Concert Recommendations for 8/14-8/20

First of all, HEY! I have gigs this week! In New York! Don’t ask me how it happened. They’re all really cool and I wouldn’t say that about just anything…

The Sweet & Low Down

Gaslight Revival Presents Singin’ with the Sheriff 60’s sing-a-long @ ZirZamin
The first of a biweekly series – bring your voice and sing along with the Sheriff of Goodtimes and his stellar house band. Lyrics provided. I’ll be playing tenor. ZirZamin is a beautiful space in Greenwich village that is catching on like wildfire amongst area musicians. Check it out! 10:30pm FREE.

The Sweet and Low Down @ St. Mazie (Williamsburg)
I am SO STOKED to be playing with two of my favorite singers in the world – Rachel Price (Lake Street Dive) and Miss Tess as they join forces every so often to bring us back to the 40’s. 10PM FREE.

Rhinestone Gorilla Burlesque Presents: Good Idea, Bad Idea @ The Triad (Upper West Side)
OK Hear me out – this isn’t your run-of-the-mill burlesque show – this is a scripted work based on Warner Brother’s 1990s cult cartoon the Animaniacs. Plus strippers. And the occasional Sondheim reference. It opened last week and was hilarious. If you lived in the the 90’s you will enjoy this performance. 9PM. $15 in advance if you buy here, otherwise $20 at the door. Plus two drink minimum.

And then there’s some other stuff this week

Caitlin Canty @ Rockwood Stage 1 (Lower East Side)
Innovative but direct, singer-songwriter. 9PM Free

Becca Stephens Band @ Shapeshifter Labs (Gowanus)
One of my favorite bands – they’ve really grown together. 8PM $15?

Cuddle Magic @ 92Y Tribeca
You should know this band by now. They’re on the way up! 8pm. $15 with two other bands.
