NYC Concert Recommendations for 2/1-2/7

Sometymes Why returns to NYC Thursday!

Sometymes Why? @ Rockwood Stage 1
One of my favorite bands in the world returns after nearly a year-long hiatus. Featuring three amazing singers and songwriters – Aoife O’Donnovan (Crooked Still), Ruth Merenda (the Mammals, Mike & Ruthy) and Kristin Andreassen (Uncle Earl) combining their talents and playing some of the songs that don’t really fit in their other groups. 7:30pm Free.

Elizabeth & the Catapult and friends @ Rockwood Stage 1
Hang around after Sometymes Why for the thoughtful pop sentiments of the catapult with some of their talented friends who make appearances on their new record, including Melissa Tong and Jeff Taylor 11:30pm Free.

Miss Tess and the Bon-Ton Parade @ Living Room
Country-swing at it’s finest, led by the charismatic Miss Tess. 7:00pm Free

Calamity Janes/Dustbusters/Baby Soda @ Southpaw
The Calamity Janes – the giant all-star mostly-female old-time band from Brooklyn co-bills with the rollicking rough-around-the-edges Dustbusters. 8:30pm $10

NYC Barn Dance @ Philip Coltoff Center
A square dance featuring an awesome band including fiddler Cleek Schrey. 8pm $15/$12 for students

Railroad Earth @ Brooklyn Bowl
Jam-grass band has been building on their material and following for over ten years now. 8pm $10

An epic night @ Rockwood Stage 1
10pm Ryan Scott – one of the best guitar players in New York sadly hardly ever showcases his original material, which is unbelievable. Featuring an amazing band.
11pm Jefferson Hamer – a multi-instrumentalist and key member of the thriving folk/americana scene makes an appearance as a leader
12am Margaret Glaspy – making her debut at Rockwood, the singer you’ve probably heard me talking about for months because she is absolutely captivating and soulful.

Betsy Oldtime Jam @ Lowlands
Another fantastic old time jam in Gowanus. 8pm Free.
