NYC Concert Recommendations for 12/7-12/11

Pick of the Week: The Fundies are poised to take the scene by storm. Wednesday.

This week is a tough one – all three members of ‘Sometymes Why’ play at different venues on Saturday night. How do I choose?!? Tuesday is easy though, four amazing bands one after the other at different venues near one another in the Lower East Side.

Andrew and Noah Band + Birdhive Boys @ National Underground
(Alt. Folk/Americana/Bluegrass) Thanks to everybody who made it out to our show Sunday! IT was awesome and we can’t wait to do it again! We’ll play mostly different songs and get to hang with my good friends the Birdhive Boys for some high-rise bluegrass! 8PM FREE

Michael Daves‘ Four Year Anniversary @ Rockwood Stage One
(Bluegrass) Your Tuesday continues across the street at Rockwood for Michael Daves weekly residency! If you’ve never heard him this is as good a chance as any – amazing voice and force of nature on the guitar! 10PM Free

Mona’s Hot Four @ Mona’s
(Trad Jazz) Wrap up your perfect Tuesday night with the swingingest hot jazz in NYC! Its a great party at a great little pub and rolls on all night! Usually till 4am or later. 13th St and Ave B. 11PM Free.

BB Gun @ Cornelia Street Cafe
The two founding members of Cuddlemagic play a duo show at Cornelia Street early. Then stick around for the must-see late show! 8:30PM $10

The Fundies @ Cornelia Street Cafe
Four of my absolute favorite musicians have a new band. I can’t put it better than their bio: The first of its kind. Margaret Glaspy, Brittany Haas, Bridget Kearney, and Rachael Price join forces to blow your mind with their sweet harmonies and catchy originals. Their talent paired with their good looks is said to be “overwhelming”. A brand new set up, they have already begun to take New York by storm and will surely continue to do so. 10:00PM $10

Alex LoRe with Strings @ Manhattan School of Music – Room 610
(Jazz) A Master’s recital of one of the best alto players in the city. With Strings! FREE 8PM

Alan Hampton @ Rockwood Stage Two
An amazing bass player known for his work with Gretchen Parlato has written some of the most insightful, exciting and uplifting music (in regard to the future of music) I’ve ever heard. Then shoot uptown right after for a holiday-ish party at my apartment! (email for details) 7:00pm Free

Mike & Ruthy/The Pearly Snaps @ House Concert
Two of my favorite groups ever play at my favorite venue – my friend’s living room. Email for details. RSVP Required. $15 suggested donation.

Kristin Andreassen @ Rockwood Stage One
(folk) 1/3 of Sometymes why and 1/5 of Uncle Earl. Great songs – jazzy folk. 8:00pm FREE

Aoife O’Donnovan & Christina Courtin @ Rockwood Stage Two
(folk) The other 1/3 of Sometymes Why and 1/5 of Crooked Still. Amazing voice. 10:00pm Free?
